Deep thoughts about the marathon.... CHICAGO SHOUT OUT!

Due to my crappy sickness today, I am left with PLENTY of time to sit here, peruse blogs, and think about the upcoming Chicago Marathon.

TWO WEEKS AWAY!!! I even got a preliminary glance at the weather report over at Shore Turtle's blog... 50 degrees?? Wa-a-a-a-a-what? I hope that sticks- but no rain, please.

There seem to be a HUGE number of people out in BlogLand running Chicago too! What fun... we all are crazy enough to 1) sign up 2) train through the summer months 3) run 26.2 miles with a gazillion other people. I love running!

Let's do a little CHICAGO MARATHON SHOUT OUT!! Drop me a quick comment if you are going to be rocking it on October 7th with the rest of us crazies! (And YES, Mendy... you are an honorary runner)

WOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

And as my favorite Baltimore crab bibs say, "Time to Get Cracking!"

Hi Tiffany

Thanks for stopping by my blog. In answer to your question, yes it feels great to get that first marathon out of the way. I've not followed your blog before now, but if you've done your training and included some good distance training then you should be ready.

Don't go out now and try to change anything, you should be prepared, just work your taper as your training program instructs you and don't forget the day before race day to do as little walking as possible....

The one thing that I don't think I did adequately was eat the right amount of carbs before the race and then I also didn't start to take in my fuel (Gu) soon enough and as a result I ran out of energy over the last 7 miles. A mistake that I will try to avoid for my next one coming up in November.

Best of luck with Chicago and I'll say a weather prayer for you as well......Do your run and have fun...

50 degrees! Oh christ, that's really cold for me; I guess I will for sure be starting in a sweatshirt -- I have been fretting over my clothes for race day for at least 2 weeks now!

I hope it gets to 50 degrees, it is in the high 70's right now! 50's will be perfect for running!
I'll be there bib #43914

Don't worry about not getting your run done. Take care of yourself so you are healthy at the start.

I trained for Chicago (2006) in Okinawa's heat and humidity. Race day Chicago was something like 35 degrees. Freezing! Everyone kept telling me -nothing new on race day- so I didn't wear the new pants I bought for the cold. Big mistake. Wear the damn pants if it's that cold!!!

Can't wait for you to run it - what an amazing race & accomplishment!

Ahhhh... Thanks Tiff. I've definately been feeling down about not doing it. Before I just read your blog (I was internet-less all weekend), I was JUST telling David how awful I feel and just sooo jealous. I really need to feel out what's wrong with my leg. Bummer.

BUT, Horrayyyy!!! for you and Jess, and all the others (I don't know) that are running it! I'm very happy for you and will be waiting in anticipation for your reports!!!

Tiff -
I'll be there! Chicago is my first marathon. You should have received your confirmation booklet. If not, you can print your confirmation email and take it with you to the expo.
